I have a plan. Every Monday I want to blog about one of my products and give you a little insight into the inspiration and thought behind it. I must admit I am still quite nervous about the whole blogging thing. It is very much out of my comfort zone, I am not a writer. At times my grammar is terrible, I can use completely the wrong words in my ramblings, and worst of all. I have been known to use “there” instead of “they’re”, eek. I have been given confidence though with the responses to my Miss to Mrs Blogs, which have been well received.

So here goes, this is me as Lotty Lollipop and this is my first Monday Morning Product Feature.

Ron and Hermione Peg DollsThere is no better place to start than with my Ron and Hermione Peg Doll Wedding Cake Toppers that I made this weekend. They are actually a custom order from one of my early days customers. This lady has pretty much filled her house with my canvases (I’m not sure there is a room in her home that hasn’t got one on it’s wall), and this is her first Peg Doll order. She is a self confessed Harry Potter Geek and I am reliably informed that this pair will be sat upon her Wedding Day Cake of Cheese. Which I think it is just perfect, I love kooky.

It is funny as my inspiration to start painting peg dolls was born out of seeing a Harry Potter Peg Doll painted by another Artist on Facebook. This is the first time though that I have painted my own ones. At the time I didn’t want to as I didn’t want to copy. I now have developed my own style and have no need to worry, long gone are the days of peaking to see how other Artists approach a brief (which is fine. I have no issues with others drawing inspiration from my pieces – just please do not copy).

The addition of Scabbers on Ron’s shoulder was a last minute stroke of inspiration. I’d ummed and ahhed long and hard about what shape doll to choose for Ron. As you can see I opted to do him on the classic female shape rather than the straight up and down one male one. I wanted to depict him in his robes, and thought the female shape worked better. This meant his gown had to be painted closed, I didn’t want him to look like he was wearing a dress. As a consequence he was too much a block colour (grey). It just needed something to break it up, and so came the making of Scabbers his pet rat.

I love the little details my Dolls have, I like to think it is what makes them quirky and special. Like Ron’s scruffy tie and shirt collar and Hermione’s nice neat one – did you notice that?

They are 9cm tall and just about fit into the palm of your hand. They are the perfect size for Cake Toppers, and a decent sized ornament for a shelf.

Hope you love them, I am really really pleased with how they have turned out.

Even if I do say so myself.
